The caves surrounded by thick growth of trees , landscape and sheltered by the golden leaves of birch trees. According to the Hindu legend the cave is known for the Shiva where Shiva explained the secret of life & eternity to his divine consort Parvati. The purpose of the holy pilgrimage is the sight of Linga representing the Lord Shiva. According to the saying the formations is an ice stone cave which resembles the Lingam. There are two route ways for the temple the longer it is the traditional way from Srinagar, & the short route from Baltal. Some devotee mainly the elderly, use the horse ride to make the journey. Mainly , the Yatra organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Government in collaboration with the Shree Amarnath Yatra trust. The Government agency provides necessary facilities during the Yatra period, it includes provision of ponies, supply of power, telecommunication facilities, firewood & setting up of fare price shops.
The most visting period in Amarnath is June, July & August. This is the annual time when thoudand of hindus from different corners of the Globe for visit Amarnath Caves. The climate is very uncertain here, Rain or snowfall can take place during the time of journey, It is to be particularly noted the changes of weather can changes the temprature. Sunny weather may change into rain/snow fall in a short time.
